Publishing Software Is Still Evolving
A few years ago if someone said the words
publishing software, the first thing to come to mind
was programs such as QuarkXpress, Pagemaker, and
other titles that featured tools for producing the
graphic art originals that became printed pages.
However, trends in electronic publishing and the
rise of ebooks and magazines have forced an
evolution of this software to a new level.
These older programs are still available. In fact,
most have been upgraded to provide a higher degree
of functionality for electronic publishers. However,
there are also many new software titles that are
gaining in popularity. These newer titles feature
new functions, such as page flip technology that
allows one to read an ebook using a computer or
reader and actually turn electronic pages rather
than simply scrolling through a line of pages.
Changes in the way people use and interact with
digital media have made many of these advances
necessary. People want their digital media to be as
aesthetically pleasing as printed matter and have
more options for interaction and obtaining more
information.
Some companies that produce ebook readers also offer
their own publishing software that allows newer and
self published writers to get their works into the
marketplace and receive more exposure. Use of this
style of publishing has made it possible for many
aspiring authors to profit from their work without
having to fight for deals from the major publishing
houses or spend their own money to get their books
published.
