How To Handle A Simple Roof Leak
Roof leaks are annoying and it is imperative that
you repair your roof the moment it starts dripping.
Roofs leak due to various causes including gaps or
cracks on the shingles, gaps along the chimney,
flashing or vent.
Simple roof leaks can be repaired with ease and it
is not really necessary to change the entire roof.
You can either call in professional roof repair
experts or do the job on your own by following a few
simple instructions.
Materials you require for repairing roof leaks
include nails, hammer, metal bristle brush, dry
cloth, roofing cement, trowel, knife and patching
fabric. Identify the problem areas by moving around
your home and observing the roof for any tears or
cracks. Mark the spots you think are problematic.
Check the roof both from inside and outside. Mark
the weak spots after carefully going over the
flashing and vents for worn out cement pieces and
cracks.
Attic is another place in your home you must check
for water stains. Roof leaks can be identified if
you go from here following the water trail. Start
your roof repair with attributes such as flashings,
chimney and vent. Clean the area around the cracks
and pack with roofing cement.
The next step is to remove the roof shingles to
patch the crack with cement before replacing it.
Then look for rubber sheathing cracks and follow a
similar procedure. In order to prevent any further
leakage, be sure to pack in some extra cement.
If you find that roof leaks are caused by bubbles,
blisters or wrapping on the roof sheathing, remove
flaps to apply cement and then the patching fabric.
